New opportunities for growth and internationalization are emerging for Finnish food companies, as efforts are made for Finnish products to gain access to NATO procurement. Goal is to establish a smooth pathway that integrates Finnish food into the defence alliance’s global supply network.
This effort is supported by Finnish Food Export Association SUVI in cooperation with Finnish Food and Drink Industries Federation (ETL) and Finnish Operations Center Oy (FOC).
The Finnish Operations Center acts as a bridge between Finnish companies and NATO. FOC’s expertise supports companies in navigating the strict entry criteria and meeting NATO’s expectations.
– Key requirements in NATO procurement include quality and field suitability. Finnish companies are very well positioned to meet these demands, says Teemu Anttila, CEO of FOC.
Strong Growth Potential
Finnish food production is known for its high quality and environmentally friendly methods, making products valued around the world.
– Our food and beverage companies can offer outstanding quality standards and traceability which are key factors in international markets. Thanks to this combination, Finnish food companies have all the potential to become significant players on the global stage, says Mikko Käkelä, CEO of ETL.
The value of Finnish food exports is approximately EUR 2.3 billion annually. NATO offers a significant growth opportunity that has attracted strong interest among Finnish companies.
– It’s great that new doors are opening towards NATO for the Finnish food industry. We’ve been producing goods for years that are well-suited for defence-related needs. NATO provides an exciting opportunity to bring our expertise to the international arena, says Jari-Pekka Rautamaa, Commercial Director at Oy Lunden Ab.
There is growing global demand for clean, sustainably produced Finnish food – reflected in the steady growth of food exports.
– Interest in responsibly produced food is rising, particularly in Europe and Asia. Finland offers an exceptionally clean environment, a transparent food chain, and high production standards. The growth of food exports benefits the entire Finnish food sector, and NATO’s procurement system presents a great opportunity for the industry as a whole,” says Elli Siltala, EVP core businesses and home markets at Valio.
An information event for food and beverage companies will be held in Tampere on 2 September to present the requirements and procedures for entering NATO’s procurement chain.
